Dreams, confidence, and digital safety took centre stage at the Special Correctional Centre for Girls in Idi Araba, Mushin, as OneAfricanChild and Forti Foods delivered the Smart Girls Online Workshop on May 30, 2026. Designed to strengthen digital literacy and online safety awareness, the workshop also supported the personal development of the participating girls.

The day began with introductions and an overview of the work of both organizations. Forti Foods spoke about the importance of healthy nutrition and making informed food choices, while OneAfricanChild shared its commitment to equipping young people with the knowledge and life skills needed to thrive.
An engaging energiser session encouraged the girls to share their dreams and aspirations. Through conversations and role-play activities, they expressed ambitions to pursue careers in fields such as medicine, law, business, and entertainment, while building confidence and self-expression.
The highlight of the day was the digital literacy and online safety session, where participants learned how to protect their personal information, identify online risks, avoid scams, understand cyberbullying, and use the internet responsibly. The girls actively participated throughout the session and reflected on their learning by documenting key takeaways on sticky notes.

Feedback from participants showed increased awareness of digital privacy, online safety, scam prevention, and responsible online behaviour. As the girls reflected on the session, many shared practical commitments such as protecting their passwords, being more cautious when interacting online, and seeking guidance from trusted adults when faced with digital challenges.
The outreach also featured a practical demonstration by Forti Foods, where the girls learned how to prepare nutritious meal packs quickly and easily, reinforcing the importance of healthy living. The collaboration reflected a shared belief that supporting young people requires a holistic approach. While OneAfricanChild focused on digital safety and life skills, Forti Foods brought valuable lessons on nutrition and wellbeing, creating a more comprehensive learning experience for the girls.

The Smart Girls Online Workshop combined digital safety education, nutrition awareness, and personal development in a way that was practical and relevant to the girls’ everyday lives. By the end of the session, participants had gained valuable knowledge on staying safe online, making informed choices, and pursuing their aspirations with greater confidence. The workshop reflects OneAfricanChild’s commitment to equipping young people with relevant skills, awareness, and support they need to navigate an increasingly connected world.
