Support Out of School Children

In our pursuit of a bright future for African children from marginalized communities, accessibility to quality education remains a huge challenge. From research, it is true that children without access to education are the most vulnerable. We are committed to changing the narrative by creating a bridge between African children and quality education, one child at a time. This is why we are starting the #OACBackToSchool Campaign; we cannot do it alone and so we need your help.

According to the UNESCO Institute of Statistics, (UIS) data for the school year ending in 2015, 264 million children and youth are out of school. This total includes 61 million children of primary school age, 62 million of lower secondary school age and 141 million of upper secondary age. Barriers hindering the access of children to education include gender issues, poverty, displacement , nomadism, disability and many more.

According to the All in School, a global initiative of UNICEF, the number of out-of-school children of primary-school-age in Nigeria is about 8.7 million.

However, the prime culprit is poverty; children from poor households and marginalized communities struggle to access education because their parents cannot afford the fees.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
